WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
Each year, there are 4,000-5,000 Domestic Violence arrests in Montgomery County alone. It affects not just the victims, but others in the family, along with friends and co-workers. It is a costly burden to the police, judicial system, health care, and businesses in our community.
WHAT IS 2000 PLUS?
2000 Plus, Inc. is Men Against Domestic Violence. Why just men? The organization is not just for men, but most domestic violence cases are perpetrated by men. The purpose of this organization is, from the male point of view, to reduce Domestic Violence.
The 2000 represents a minimum of 2,000 men to support the organization. The Plus represents additional men over 2,000 and 2,000 women who are also concerned about Domestic Violence, and would like to help reduce Domestic Violence.
HOW CAN I HELP?
Volunteers and money are needed. The goal is to obtain individual donations of $20 from 2,000 concerned men and women. Donations of $100 from individual companies in the local community will be welcomed as well. 100% of the funds will be used to finance the awareness programs of 2000 Plus, Inc. Volunteers are needed to manage the office, speaking to businesses, obtaining arrest reports, gathering and analyzing data, writing articles, and assisting with various programs to raise the awareness of Domestic Violence
WHAT ARE THE 2000 PLUS PROGRAMS?
Work is underway to issue "The Hero Express" to all 229,000 households in Montgomery County. It will be in newspaper format, and the content will be totally devoted to the problem of Domestic Violence. An individual donation of $20 will enable distribution of "The Hero Express" to about 140 households in our community. Currently, the other program is the Mashed Potato Run and Gravy Walk held in November each year. Additional programs to raise public awareness of the Domestic Violence problem are planned for the future.
WHY THE NAME "THE HERO EXPRESS"?
One of 2000 Plus slogans is "Domestic Violence is a learned behavior. Be a hero. Break the cycle". Generally, domestic violence perpetrators have grown up with domestic violence as children, and continue that behavior through adulthood. Through awareness and knowledge, a perpetrator can change that mindset and behavior, becoming a Hero.
2000 Plus, Inc. is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 organization. There is no paid staff.
